Not all car insurance companies offer courtesy cars after an accident. In fact, if you recently found yourself stranded without transportation after a fender bender, it turns out you are among the average. Recent studies have found that nearly half of all car insurance companies do not provide courtesy cars as standard policy.
Of the half that do provide courtesy cars, about half require that clients choose a courtesy car option when first applying for insurance. Generally this is also associated with a monthly fee so there isn't much courtesy there at all.
What all of this boils down to is that there is a good chance that an accident could leave you stranded while you look for a replacement or wait for your vehicle to be repaired. For some people this can be a major inconvenience. It wouldn't hurt to take a look at your policy and see exactly what the protocol is before you end up with no transportation.
