It is important for homeowners to understand that flood damage is not covered by their home insurance policy under any circumstance.

Even if the cause of the flood is something that is covered by your home insurance policy, like a hurricane or earthquake, you will not be able to make claims for damages that are a direct result of the flood. Instead, you must buy an additional flood insurance policy in order to get that coverage. There are some other water-related damages that will be covered by a basic home insurance policy, though, such as rainwater damage. When you are comparing home insurance quotes, it is a good idea to find out the specifics of any coverage for water damage. If that protection is not sufficient to cover potential losses, then you should consider a separate flood insurance policy for added security.

While property insurers do not have anything good to say publicly about their business in Florida, if you follow their money it continues to pour into the state. This is despite the risk from hurricanes and onerous state regulation. At least eight global insurance giants like State Farm, Hannover AG and Renaissance RE have re-entered the Florida market as reinsurers, driving down home insurance and business policy prices state wide.

Prices have dropped an average of 5-15%, and now the insurance companies are seeking state approval for rate increases. They argue that premiums are now too low, due to the size of discounts the offer for "hardening: your home, a rise in sinkhole claims, and competition from state-backed Citizens Property Insurance Co which holds their rates frozen at mid-range prices.

Insurance.com research found that for every traffic violation ticket that shows up on your driving record, your car insurance premium increases. For a single traffic violation, you car insurance premium can increase by 18% on an average. The data also showed that your car insurance premium would rise by 34% if two traffic violations showed up on your record. Drivers whose record showed more than three traffic tickets would end up paying 50% more than drivers with no traffic violation tickets.
Car insurance companies see people with a greater number of violation as higher risk clients and therefore charge more from them. Traffic violation like DUI can see your car insurance skyrocket; while taking driver safety courses can help you reduce the premium on your car insurance.
